Meet some of our volunteers
Meet Carol Butler
At the Community Centre, Carol produces the monthly newsletter and manages special projects like the Intergenerational Kindergarten and Young Entrepreneurs Bootcamp. She also refines membership processes and helps at events when possible.
Volunteering allows Carol to contribute to the community while using her existing skills and learning new ones. The supportive environment at the Centre has led her to form lasting friendships.
Carol’s experience reflects the volunteer mantra “get more than you give,” as she finds both personal growth and a sense of fulfillment in her role.
Meet Steve Torta
Steve has a professional background in the construction industry, specialising in the design and execution of commercial projects. His passion is regenerative agriculture and permaculture, and enthusiasm for gardening and community engagement is invaluable.
Steve contributes to building community garden beds and growing produce. He cherishes being a part of the Bulimba Community Centre, enjoying the strong sense of community camaraderie and witnessing the garden thrive.
Meet Kerry Anderson
Kerry, a recent finalist in the Bulimba Electorate QLD Day Awards, is an inspiring leader who fosters a positive, can-do attitude within the team.
At our centre, she leads The Catering Crew managing over 35 volunteers and has catered large events like Gangsters Galore, serving 118 guests and 20 cast members per show.
Meet Kate Morgan
Kate is a key volunteer in our gardening group at the Community Centre, where she efficiently organises meetups and the watering roster. With a background in nursing and rostering, she brings excellent organisational skills to her role.
Having emigrated to Brisbane in 1990, Kate has been actively involved in volunteering, first at her children’s school and now at the Centre. Recently downsizing to a Bulimba townhouse, she has developed a deep passion for gardening.
Volunteering has allowed her to meet interesting people, make new friends, and feel connected to the local community, turning gardening into a fulfilling hobby.
