Bulimba Community Centre launches ‘Seed to Plate’ with grant

Apr 29, 2025

Bulimba Community Centre is planting the seeds for stronger community ties through its latest initiative, Seed to Plate: Cultivating Community through Gardening, Cooking and Sharing.

Thanks to a generous $25,000 grant from Neighbourhood Centres Queensland (NCQ), the Centre will deliver a year-long program focused on food, sustainability, and community connection.
The Seed to Plate project aims to engage people of all ages through interactive, hands-on learning experiences.

The program includes community gardening sessions, food safety and nutrition workshops, cooking classes using local produce, and the creation of a community recipe book featuring contributions from Bulimba residents.

By offering these activities, the Centre hopes to promote social inclusion, reduce isolation, and pass down valuable life skills across generations. The program will also highlight the importance of sustainable living and food security, particularly in a time when cost-of-living pressures are rising.

The initiative reflects the Centre’s mission to Connect, Support, and Belong. More than just a food project, Seed to Plate is a celebration of culture, knowledge, and community spirit. It’s an opportunity for people to come together, learn from one another, and build lasting friendships around the shared experience of growing and preparing food.

The Bulimba Community Centre welcomes everyone to participate, whether by volunteering, attending events, or sharing a recipe for the book.
